David's 35th birthday...

June 6, 2014

For David's birthday, we had a nice family dinner.  We just ordered pizzas and had a ice cream cake and cupcakes for dessert.  It was simple and fun, just like David wanted it.  Brady even made him a special birthday hat.

I wanted to take David away for the weekend.  I wanted him to relax and get away from reality for a day or two and that's just what we did.  We didn't go far.  We went to Tucson and stayed on the north side for a night.  I made dinner reservations for that night and brunch reservations for the next day.   We ate at Firebirds on the north side and then saw a movie in an IMax theatre.  It was awesome!  We watched The Edge of Tomorrow and it was really good!  It was quite an experience to see a movie on the iMax screen.  After that...we went to Baskin Robbins for some ice cream and then back to the hotel for some peaceful relaxation.

The next morning, we went to brunch at a restaurant called The Abbey.  I had read about it in Edible Baja Magazine.  It was very unique and quite delicious.  The restaurant was surrounded by big windows letting in the bright Tucson sun and had big chalk boards hanging from the ceiling,  displaying the menu and specials.  The kitchen was exposed and showed all the food being prepared.  We were seated in a corner booth facing a bookcase full of classic literature.  Looking out into the dining area were groups of people that definitely fit the atmosphere.  We saw a group of ladies sipping tea, eating spinach omelets and meeting for book club,  some young college students with hipster glasses asking for the vegan special and more than one laptop accompanied guy with facial hair, drinking coffee and enjoying the famous french toast.  I think I liked it more than David...but it was still a very nice time.  Can't wait to go back!
